What it's about: Speaking of enjoyable hokum...well, that's what this is. Or at least that's the vibe we're getting from the latest addition to the CBS stable of procedurals, a crime drama that's like Numb3rs, but everyone is David Krumholtz. So, like Leverage? Yes. Loosely based on the life of genius and computer expert Walter O'Brien, the man with the fourth-highest IQ in the world (which is still pretty high, when you think about it), Scorpion is all about a group of nerds who help Robert Patrick's FBI agent solve crimes that are beyond their normal, non-nerdy capabilities. Sounds like a geeky spin on the usual weekly crime dramas, or possibly a lighter-touch version of Person Of Interest. Except starring the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day! Hooray! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9-6DRiLsYE Why it looks good: We're all for more hacker silliness on our television screens - especially since Leverage got cancelled a couple of years back - and by all reports the pilot is a light, fun and breezy affair, which rockets along at a fair old clip and features some witty, inspired banter between the ensemble cast. An ensemble which includes American Pie's Eddie Kaye Thomas, pop star-turned actress Katharine McPhee, and Elyes Gabel (Dothraki Rakharo from seasons one and two of Game Of Thrones) - which is a pretty good cast in our eyes. Plus Robert Patrick's usually a pretty good indicator, what with his last mainstream TV role being on a little thing called The X-Files, and that turned out pretty well. The first episode is directed by Justin Lin, too, who has a good track record for this sort of thing.
