20 Most Exciting Fall TV Premieres

16. The Flash

What it's about: Since Arrow has become such a surprise hit DC have set their sights on television. Whilst their competitors continue to rule the multiplexes, we can expect to see more superheroes on the small screen, with Supergirl being the latest to apparently be in contention for a series on the WB. Before that, though, we get The Flash: the story of Barry Allen, a whip-smart young science bloke who nonetheless ends up in some sort of accident that blesses him with the power to run really fast. Like, really. We're talking more Zonda than Usain Bolt. And he'll probably be hanging out with that archer guy from Starling City from time to time, in between solving science mysteries with the high-tech STAR Labs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj0l7iGKh8g Why it looks good: We'll admit that Arrow is another of our guilty pleasures. Mostly po-faced and adopting the dark tone of Christopher Nolan's Batman films, seeing Oliver Queen tearing across a slowly building DC Universe on our television screens every week has been a delight. Expanding that landscape further with The Flash is a smart idea, as is the more playful, witty approach to the source material compared to its predecessor. The pilot is meant to be light and fun, whilst the trailers hint at a more complex story beneath the monster-of-the-week episode structure. The costume and speed-of-light running effects are dead-on, Glee's Grant Gustin is perfect casting as the titular hero...honestly, we're not sure how it could be better?
