20 Most Exciting Fall TV Premieres

15. Gracepoint

What it's about: Broadchurch. But American. That's pretty much the measure of it, as this Fox adaptation of last year's fantastic British crime drama looks to be hewing fairly close to the source material - even bringing along original star David Tennant, albeit this time sporting a reasonably impressive Yank accent in place of his usual Scottish brogue. It's again written by Chris Chibnall and will involve Tennant's disgraced big-city police detective being sent to a sleepy Californian seaside town to investigate the mysterious death of a 12-year-old boy, whose body was found on the local beach. He'll be aided by a local copper, this time played by Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn, and throughout the ten episodes we'll be introduced to the population of the eponymous town, each of whom seem to be hiding dark secrets which could implicate all of them as suspects... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9IWvbbZPZc Why it looks good: Well, Broadchurch was pretty bloody good. We wouldn't be all that jazzed about a typical re-do, since we doubt it could compare to the original, but there's a few differences (and similarities) that reassure us Gracepoint will be worth watching, too. For one thing, Tennant and Chibnall are on board, which suggests they have some reason to be interested in reprising their roles. Besides money, obviously. The casting of Gunn in the role previously played by Olivia Colman is great, too, since she needs a chance to show people she's more than Skyler White. There's also a couple more episodes than the British series, so perhaps we'll get to delve even further into the mystery and the minds of the town's residents? Fingers crossed for a different ending, too, else we'll feel a bit robbed.
