20 Funniest Moments In British Comedy
9. Sue's Arms - Green Wing
The Show: Another program that benefitted from Channel 4 deciding that surrealism was the only way to go, Green Wing was the impossibly silly, frighteningly surreal, and occasionally heartfelt serial-sitcom of Victoria Pile that inadvertently made stars of Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Grieg (both now helming the BBC's Episodes with Matt Le Blanc). At a modest 2 series and 17 episodes, there was never too much in the way of story to reminisce about, but it's still littered with moments of bizarre comic genius.
The Setup: Almost any scene involving the the fussy Dr Statham and the sex-obsessed Sue White could feature here, and the chemistry between actors Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez was improbably hilarious. However, in this particular instance, Sue has furnished herself with novelty arms for no real reason at all. The following minute almost entirely summarises the humour behind Green Wing, from the nonsensical concept, to the perfectly acted portrayals, right down the time lapse camera work at the end of each sketch. It'll not make much sense if you've never seen the show before,
