20 Funniest Moments In British Comedy
8. The Internet - The IT Crowd
The Show: For all its detractors and criticisms over consistency and use of a laugh track (actually a live studio audience if you believe the show's creators), the IT Crowd was actually a pretty impressive series. It's two leads, Richard Ayoade and Chris O'Dowd have since graduated to second billing slots in reasonably funny Hollywood films and, if nothing else, it got Chris Morris back on your screens for a bit. Also, in an age where the digital dependance was becoming widespread, it was a subject that had still never previously worked well in comedy. Until the IT Crowd.
The Setup: Most gags in the show revolved around the concept that Moss and Roy (Ayode and O'Dowd) are good with computers, and Jen, their boss, isn't. A familiar setting for anybody under the age of 30 who's relatives who honestly use terms like "we're not computer people" when they don't know how to safely eject a USB drive. In this, the two boys attempt to play something of a prank of their co-worker only to have it backfire spectacularly.
