17. The Giant Chicken Is Called Ernie

The chicken fights, otherwise known as the "we need to pad this episode out by another five minutes" sequences, are one of the most curious parts of Family Guy's popularity. They're not particularly funny, yet remain some of the fans' favourite moments, probably due to the incredibly choreographed destruction they leave in their wake. Still, audiences seem to get excited when ever the duo lock eyes, preempting all hell breaking use.

In Season 5 episode No Chris Left Behind, the one where the duo make a truce and go out to dinner, only for an argument over the cheque to spark the whole thing over again, in a throwaway line of dialogue most people miss, it's 'revealed' the chicken's real name is Ernie. That's a pretty by the numbers name for a such a ridiculous character, which really only makes him funnier.
