20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn’t Know About Family Guy

18. Chris' Voice Is Based On Buffalo Bill

Fox

When you think of teenagers you think hormonal youths rather than hellish serial killers. Thankfully Seth Green doesn't think like everyone else; in his audition for Chris he did a spot-on take of Buffalo Bill, the woman-suit making killer from The Silence Of The Lambs. The voice was made slightly higher to work for a teenager, but the genesis is clearly there.

This is directly referenced in Season 7 episode Stew-Roids, where a video of Chris doing the same pushed-up dance to the camera as Bill is used to destroy his popularity at school. Rather than one of Family Guy's many pop culture references, this is actually more of a personal in-joke gone large. Seth Green and his friend were obsessed with the Buffalo Bill voice (The Silence Of The Lambs was less than a decade old at the time), imagining him in every job they could. So when it came to the audition, going out on a limb he tried it out there too.
