18. Anthony Head Was James Marster's Voice Coach

Part of what makes Spike such a fan-favourite character is the many quirks which make him up. His peroxide blonde hair, his leather trench coat... but, above all else, he's defined by his cockney-accent. Though James Marsters is really from California, he's generally commended for his efforts and many viewers assumed he was British. The mystery of how he 'marstered' the voice is actually a simple one - he was tutored by actual brit Anthony Head. Head's own accent is actually closer to Spike's cockney than his character Giles' posher dialect. Extra fact: When he first went for the part, James Marsters used a Texan drawl for Spike before he swapped it for cockney. We're not sure if Anthony Head would have helped him out with that one...
