17. 'Funny Aneurysm' And Other Foreshadowing
It's well known to fans that Buffy is big on foreshadowing with significant events in the series being alluded to sometimes seasons before they actually occur. One of the most famous examples happens during a cryptic dream scene in which Faith tells Buffy that 'little sis is coming' and 'counting down from 7 3 0' - referencing the surprise introduction of Buffy's sister Dawn and Buffy's own death, which happened two years - or 730 days - later. However, there are several more instances of foreshadowing in the series that are a little bit subtler and easier to miss. For one, in Season Six's All The Way, Xander wears a pirate costume with an eye patch. The following season, he lost an eye. Also, in surreal Season Four finale Restless, Spike is dressed in a Giles-esque tweed suit while Giles himself says 'Spike is like a son to me.' Two season later, having lost his memories, Spike wears the same suit and believes himself to be Giles' son. But the worst is yet to come. Earlier in Season Four, Buffy jokes to Willow that her mother Joyce will have a 'funny aneurysm' when she sees the bills for her college books. The next year, Joyce died from an aneurysm.
