20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Hannibal
8. David Tennant Auditioned For Hannibal Lecter
Between his grizzled, disturbed and possibly dying police detective in Broadchurch and the creepy, mind-controlling criminal he's going to be playing in Marvel's Netflix series Jessica Jones, David Tenant really looks like he's desperate to escape Doctor Who's shadow. The Scottish actor still remains best-known for playing the playful, energetic Tenth Doctor.
That role rather undersold his range, however (he can actually do more than talk dead fast or grit his teeth and take off his glasses when he's being serious). And before he landed the role of Purple Man in Jessica Jones he'd already been gunning for his first serious villain part: namely, the titular flesh-eater in Hannibal.
Obviously he didn't get it, interesting though it would have been to see him in the role, but Bryan Fuller was so impressed with Tennant's audition that he promised to write him a guest role as an unsettling serial killer at some point. Which is also probably not going to happen, what with the whole show-being-cancelled thing. Bugger.
