20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About South Park
11. After The Family Guy Parody, The Simpsons Sent Flowers To The Studio
The episode Cartoon Wars featured a brutal takedown of Family Guy, criticizing the show as being cheap, not funny, and suggesting it's something a bunch of manatees could have written by assembling random words and pop culture references. As it turns out, South Park wasn't the only animated show on the air that felt that way.
When asked to expand on their opinion of Family Guy, Parker noted that, "...the day after that episode aired, we got flowers from The Simpsons. We got calls from King of the Hill, saying we were doing God's work." In the commentary for the episode, they further explained that the writers at The Simpsons actually called them in addition to the flowers to say thank you. "Because they actually hate Family Guy more than we do even though they won't say it."
Of course, that episode also had plenty of important things to say about censoring comedy, and it took a lot of guts for Parker and Stone to make fun of Muhammad as an expression of free speech. It was also nice to see someone call out Family Guy, though.
