Back before it was a cultural phenomenon, Breaking Bad had more respectable ratings. It never faced cancellation - it was critically acclaimed and even at its lowest the show was a delightful hit for AMC (especially pre-Walking Dead). Said lowest was Better Call Saul pulling in only 1.04 million.
Viewed the least probably just because it was a mid-season episode (it's the eighth episode of Season 2), those ratings weren't massively out of step with what the show was regularly pulling in.
