20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About True Detective

5. The Prison Guard Overseeing The Suicide Prisoner Is A Childress

One of the themes running throughout the show is the idea that the corruption in Louisiana runs wide and deep, starting with the police and criminals, running all the way up to church pastors and politicians. You know that Errol Childress is the killer Hart and Cohle have been after (or at least one of the killers - it€™s assumed more remained out there). You also know that Ted Childress, the man found tied to a bed with his mouth sewn shut and near-dead in the final episode, was once a sheriff covering up some of the abuses committed by his family and the Tuttles. What most viewers fail to catch is that the prison guard in charge of watching the murderer and thief Guy Francis, who tells Cohle he has information about The Yellow King, and who subsequently commits suicide, is also a Childress. It€™s dealt as a throwaway moment, but one that€™s primed to shock those watching the show a second time for anything they might have missed.
