20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About True Detective

3. Demand For The Final Episode Caused HBO Go To Crash

True Detective was, in its initial run, watercooler television - this was the kind of stuff that viewers would take time to mull over and discuss with friends and co-workers. The show proved such compelling TV that millions tuned in each week, almost equalling the success of HBO's Six Feet Under in 2001, with 3.5 million tuning in on the night the show's final episode aired alone. The show was at one stage averaging around 11 million viewers a week in total. Basically, it was a huge success, so huge that demand from viewers to watch the final episode crashed HBO's online streaming service, HBO Go, with the site unable to handle the strain.
