20 Mind-Blowing Facts About Twin Peaks

6. Multiple Endings To Laura Palmer's Murder Were Filmed

Ultimately, Twin Peaks was never really meant to be about Laura Palmer's murder. Frost and Lynch simply intended that mystery to serve as the catalyst for them exploring all the weird characters of the town, the darkness beneath the light façade and the secrets that everybody as keeping, which came out one by one as the investigation continued and Cooper stuck his nose into all sorts of strange and wonderful places. If only viewers and the network agreed. The proportion of the audience clamouring for an answer to €œWho Killed Laura Palmer?€ were enough to convince ABC that Frost and Lynch didn't know what they were doing, leading them to insist they wrap the case up halfway through the second season, leaving the show stranded and without a central reason for people to keep tuning in or to propel the plot forward. Still, even if it ruined the show, the reveal was one of the most closely-guarded secrets in television history. So much so that, to prevent leaks, several different takes of Maddie Ferguson's murder €“ which eventually lead to Laura's killer €“ were filmed, with killers including an insane Ben Horne, one with BOB as a separate entity, and one with Leland. If that seems like a lot of work, bear in mind a German network cancelled the show after a rival channel spoiled the identity of Laura's murder.
