20 Mind-Blowing Facts About Twin Peaks

5. Audrey And Cooper's Romance Was Snubbed Because Of Lara Flynn Boyle

It's a good thing Tumblr shippers weren't around in the days of Twin Peaks, because they would've been liable to violently revolt when Audrey and Agent Cooper's budding romance was nixed. The show managed to show the teen's crush on the older FBI investigator in a sensitive manner, but it was still a potential romantic pairing involving a grown man and a high schooler. Except that totally wasn't the reason it was nixed all. No, the real reason their romance was put on ice was that Kyle MacLachlan (Cooper) was dating co-star Lara Flynn Boyle (who played fellow high schooler Donna), and had apparently kicked up a jealous fuss that Audrey actress Sherilyn Fenn was getting more screen time than her. So they were split up, Audrey found love in the arms of Billy Zane's John Justice Wheeler, and Cooper wound up with Heather Graham's Annie...who in real life was two years younger than Fenn. Boyle continued to be a thorn in the side of the production and didn't reprise her role in the movie sequel Fire Walk With Me, the part of Donna instead being played by Moira Kelly. Apparently that was because Flynn was booked up with film work.
