18. Mulder's Trip - The X-Files
The new “event” series of The X-Files was a real mixed bag, combining a couple of great episodes with some utter crap. Babylon is one episode that really divided people; some loved the wacky humour and sugary humanist message, while others thought it was the worst episode of the entire series.
Whichever side viewers fell on, it’s hard to deny the over the top charm of Mulder’s magic mushroom trip. His reasons for doing it don’t make a lick of sense, and the whole scene is merely an excuse for director Chris Carter to create some really weird visuals.
He does so with gusto, and the highlight is the surprise cameo by The Lone Gunman, and Mulder line dancing to Acky Breaky Heart. It’s since gone on to Gif immortality, where it belongs.
