15. Michael Scott Returns (The Office - Season 9, Episode 25 )
The Moment: At Dwight's (Rainn Wilson) wedding, an unexpected guest shows up in the form of Michael Scott (Steve Carell), who serves as Dwight's last-minute best man. Why It Had To Be Paused: Though fans rightly had a feeling that Scott might make a cameo in the final episode, it was still a surprising moment in its own right, largely because of Scott's aged appearance (namely the grey hair), and the hilarious one-liner that follows ("I can't believe you came" / "That's what she said"). The Office was never the same after Carell left at the end of season 7, and after it struggled on for two more seasons, seeing Michael Scott one more time helped give audiences some closure. It's all the more impressive that Scott's re-appearance didn't undermine the endings of the other characters: the writers smartly kept his extended cameo understated rather than lingering on him throughout the episode. It let us know that Michael was happy, and that was enough.
