20 Most Paused TV Moments Of The Decade

14. Frank Murders Zoe (House Of Cards - Season 2, Episode 1)

The Moment: Machiavellian Vice President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) meets reporter Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) in a New York train station, and in order to cover up his murder of Peter Russo (Corey Stoll) in the previous season, pushes Zoe in front of an oncoming commuter train, killing her instantly. Why It Had To Be Paused: This is something absolutely nobody saw coming, and it completely changed the expected tone of the show's second season. After Zoe was introduced in the first season as one of the most important major characters, to have her bumped off so efficiently by Frank in episode one let audiences know that they should be prepared for shocks and surprises, which the season delivered in spades, though no moment was as jaw-dropping as this. Given how quickly the act takes place, viewers no doubt rewound it and paused on the crucial shot a few times, just to try and make sense of it all.
