20 Problems Only Whovians Will Understand

12. The 'I Hate (Insert Current Show Runner Here)' Syndrome

There is absolutely nothing new about this. For every fan currently swearing that Steven Moffat is the worst thing to ever happen to show, there was one five years ago saying the same thing about Russell T. Davies. And before him Philip Segal (although there's a case to be made...) And before him John Nathan Turner, and so on. If Twitter had existed in 1965 it would have been full of declarations that John Wiles was the 'Worst Thing to Ever Happen to Doctor Who.' That's just the nature of Fandom, irritating though it may be to read. It's somewhat comforting though to remember that as soon as a producer leaves they instantly become 'So much better than (insert new producer's name) and the cycle begins anew.

11. The 'Rose Factor'

There has never, in the history of Doctor Who, been another companion who was so divisive that people were still arguing their pros and cons years after they had left the show. Not even Mel comes close to the level of excitability you'll encounter is you're brave enough to post 'Rose Tyler was the best/worst companion ever!' on any of the available internet comment board threads. It's hard to see why Billie Piper inspires such a high level of adoration/blinding fury. Partially it may be due to the fact that she was the first companion that the new audience got to meet. More likely it has to do with the way she became a personification of the possibility of a Doctor/Companion love match (a topic that large portions of Fandom appear ready to kill one another over.) Whatever the reason, it might be hoped that one day passions might cool on the subject and it might be possible to remember her fondly without having to make a big deal out of it. That day, however, has not yet come.
