The Sixth Doctor's era, much like Rose Tyler, tends to bring out strong feelings from Fandom. A combination of weak scripting and production decisions that border on the inept side of complete lunacy did not do Mr. Baker any favors. The decision to portray his Doctor onscreen as deliberately unlikeable finished the job. By the time he was fired from the show the majority of Fandom had a shared view that, while it was unfair to him, we weren't really sorry to see him go. Time and Big Finish have proved that sentiment wrong. Getting to know what Colin Baker is actually like through interviews and appearances (and finding out that he's one of the most gracious and humble people to have ever been involved with the show), alongside his performance in many of the better audio adventures put out by Big Finish show us just how wonderful his time as The Doctor could have been.
9. People Who Still Think It's All About The Scarf
In a way Fandom only has itself to blame for this one. Even as recently as Peter Capaldi's debut the iconic Tom Baker scarf was given a mention. Admittedly that was just to make fun of it, but it still brought 'The Scarf' back into the conversation. It's slightly less prevalent than it was before 2005, but there are still people out there who, upon hearing that you're a fan of Doctor Who, will immediately make some sort of joke about 'The Scarf'. Usually followed by something about Daleks not being able to go up stairs. Part of being a Whovian is learning to accept the fact that there's nothing you can do about this. Those people will continue to be out there, and for the most part don't mean any harm by it. They just don't know any better. Console yourself that in 30 years we'll all be facing an identical fez problem.
