20 Things You Didn't Know About Scrubs
11. Laverne's Death
During the first six seasons of Scrubs, Nurse Laverne Roberts was Carla's right-hand woman, a sassy and tough staff member who was the focus of many great jokes and hilarious gossip-related sub-plots. To the dismay of many fans, Laverne's time on the show was cut short when she was killed off in season six's "My Last Goodbye" after a car accident.
Though this remains one of the show's best-ever arcs, in which everyone at the hospital comes to terms with their loss and remembers Laverne's influence on their lives, it could have been avoided. According to Bill Lawrence, he killed her off because he once more thought the show would be cancelled, and thought it would be an interesting arc.
After the show was renewed for seasons seven and eight, Lawrence felt bad about cutting actress Aloma Wright from the show, and brought her back as Nurse Shirley (a play on the show Laverne and Shirley), who no one but J.D realises is exactly the same as Laverne.
