20 Things You Didn't Know About Scrubs
14. Sacred Heart Is A Real Hospital
In Scrubs, Sacred Heart Hospital serves as the primary setting for the entire show. But the hospital was not a set-piece, but rather a real-life hospital called North Hollywood Medical Centre. This was where the show was filmed for its first eight seasons.
The in-world location of Scrubs was always left ambiguous, but the N. Hollywood Medical Centre was a decommissioned medical building located in California. The studio took over control of the abandoned building during filming for the show, revamping the insides to make way for the production crews and actors.
Many of the locations within the hospital, such as the nurses station, were built for the show and could be easily moved to allow for more camera angles to be used. The other key settings of the show, including J.D and Turk's apartment, Dr Cox's apartment, and the bar, were each also built into the hospital.
