20 Things You Totally Missed In The Walking Dead
5. The Recurring Letter A
From the end of season four onward, the letter A crops up an awful lot. It first appears in the finale of season four, when Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Carl are instructed by the Terminus cannibals to go to a container with a big A painted on it. In season five, Rick has an A stamped on his hand by Sam Anderson (Major Dodson), and Carol finds one rather randomly on the steps of her late neighbour's house.
It makes a more prominent reappearance in season seven, when Daryl is taken and tortured by Negan and dressed in a jumper with an A on its front, and when Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) is seen communicating with the the still-mysterious helicopter people (who will be explored in the show's spin-offs).
Whilst producer and future showrunner Angela Kang has said that the A on Daryl's chest stands for "a-hole", it hasn't been confirmed what the overall significance of the letter is for the rest of the show.
The general theory is that it always crops up when certain characters are trapped by their enemies, and it serves a symbol for their entrapment. It also appears around characters who are in a bad way mentally.
Whatever the case, it's a serious mystery that needs explained, considering how often it turns up, and hopefully more light will be shed on it in future...
