16. Fred Andrews - Riverdale
A truly tragic character death, Luke Perry, the veteran TV star who played Riverdale's Fred Andrews, suffered a massive unexpected stroke and passed away on the same day at the age of 52.
The father of series protagonist Archie Andrews, Fred was a construction owner and relatable everyman, who displayed a strong bond with his son. After Perry's death between seasons 3 and 4, a standalone episode was created to open the 4th season, in which Archie receives news of his father's death.
He had been helping a stranger with their car and when a speeding driver sped towards them seemingly out of nowhere, Fred pushed the stranger from the car's path and was himself struck and killed. The remainder of the episode is dedicated to the memory of the character and all subsequent episodes are dedicated to Perry's memory.
