20 TV Episodes That Are Totally Flawless

18. The Book Of Nora - The Leftovers

The Sopranos
HBO

Rarely has an episode of TV offered more complete closure than the series finale of The Leftovers.

The first two seasons of Damon Lindelof's challenging drama were great, but its third and final instalment remains in a league of its own, following the show's various characters as they finally come to terms with the world around them and learn to live with their futures.

The season is never better than in The Book of Nora, which sees a revelatory Carrie Coon take centre stage as Nora in a beautiful, life-affirming hour of slow-burn character interactions which unearth long-hidden truths, but refuse - as the show so often did - to give too much away.

Between Coon's phenomenal performance, Mimi Leder's thoughtful direction and its unforgettable meditations on love, loss, memory and time, The Book of Nora is undeniably an all-timer of a series finale.
