20 Worst Doctor Who Episodes Ever

19. The Wedding Of River Song

From The Big Bang to The Doctor Falls, Steven Moffat finales are generally stunning character studies that put everyone through the emotional wringer while the universe falls apart.

The opening minutes of The Wedding of River Song – where the barriers between past, present, and future have broken down – sets the Series 6 finale up to be just that. And yet, it can't quite stick the landing.

The marriage of the Doctor and River bringing reality back together again doesn't make a lick of sense, and the Doctor using the Teselecta to avoid his execution is such an obvious resolution that you wonder what everyone was worrying about in the first place.

Worse still, there's so much strange and random stuff happening throughout that it's tough to connect with the episode emotionally, as we're whisked from giant chess boards to pyramids and pulled between the past and the present constantly.

The potential was clearly there, but it doesn't quite gel.
