20 Worst Doctor Who Episodes Ever

13. The Rings Of Akhaten

Doctor Who The Lie of the Land Peter Capaldi

The Rings of Akhaten is a decent enough 'first trip in the TARDIS' story, but it completely falls apart with the resolution.

Any Doctor Who episode that requires the Doctor to somehow sacrifice themselves that isn't a finale or regeneration story is already unlikely to work.

Nobody believes that the Doctor is actually in any jeopardy because someone else will come along and fix it, or the Doctor will do something clever at the last minute.

Which is presumably why writer Neil Cross just shrugs his shoulders and has Clara turn up to save the day with a leaf... because sentimental value? It's a shame, because Cross does some great world-building in Akhaten's first 20 minutes, only to fumble the conclusion.
