With hundreds massacred and having barely escaped Hardhome and made it to the narrowboats leaving the shore before the undead overrun it, Jon Snow can do nothing other than look back to land at the carnage which has unfolded. Here. he gets his first proper look at what is without a doubt the most dangerous character in the entire series - the Night's King - as he gently raises his hands and reanimates the corpses of the slain as wights. That many of Snow's fellow men of the Night's Watch are among the undead no doubt made the sight all the more terrible. Director Miguel Sapochnik handles the scene perfectly - the dead rise in near silence, and the stillness in the air creates an atmosphere charged with latent doom.
