Game of Thrones just wouldn't be the same without the death of at least one major character in the season finale, and this time around we got something of a double whammy, with Stannis' defeat at the hands of the Boltons kicking off the episode in style. Jon Snow is one of the few genuinely good men to occupy Castle Black, which isn't surprising given that the Night's Watch are largely made up of convicted criminals, murderers and rapists. So when he decided to head over to the Wildlings and convince them to join them in the North it's to be expected that he'd make a few enemies in his own ranks. Unfortunately he severely misjudged just how much anger and resentment his actions would fuel. Led by Ser Alliser, Snow is lured into a secluded spot on the pretence of discovering information about his uncle Benjen Stark and promptly stabbed by a small band of members of he Night's Watch, who each utter the words: "For the watch" as they plunge their daggers into his chest. Few moments in television history have left fans feeling so saddened and distraught. There are a number of theories as to how Jon Snow could have survived this act of mutiny, but we'll have to wait until next year to find out if any of them are true.
