3. Rebel Wilson Succeeds as Host
It is difficult to say whether or not Rebel Wilson really deserved the golden popcorn for Best Breakthrough Performance, but that's only if we're talking about
Pitch Perfect. As host, Wilson absolutely delivered. She was funny and self-deprecating just as one might expect, but more importantly, she kept the show rolling. Previous hosts have had a tendency to stick with a bit to the bitter end even when it was not working. Not every joke of hers landed, but Wilson had an ear for the audience and knew when to move on. She was not just sweeping away bad jokes, though. Rebel got big laughs throughout the show including the opening sketch with James Franco, her fantastic dance routine, her cutting room floor scenes, and her wardrobe malfunction during a speech about body image. Okay, so these are more than a single moment, but overall, this was a very big night for Wilson and many will hope to have her back next year.
