21 TV Shows With Iconic Theme Songs

9. All In The Family

Series Debut: 1971 "Those Were The Days" is the song that opened up All in the Family, with Archie Bunker and wife Edith singing while Edith tapped out the tune on piano. Believe it or not, not only did Carroll O'Connor (Bunker) and Jean Stapleton (Edith) sing the song live in front of a studio audience, Stapleton actually did play the tune on the piano. The song was written by Lee Adams and Charles Strouse (lyrics and music, respectively). Several versions of the song were performed and recorded by O'Connor and Stapleton over the years, and a longer version of the tune was released as a single in 1972, hitting #30 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Family Guy offers an homage to "Those Were The Days" in its opening number, which features Peter and Lois seated at a piano similar to Archie and Edith. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F9vRVyV914
