21 TV Shows With Iconic Theme Songs

16. Friends

Series Debut: 1994 As far as pop song openings go, "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts is probably one of the most well-recognized on television. Co-written by members of the band and Friends producers David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the song appeared on the band's third album after their label insisted they record a full length version of it (the original theme was under a minute, and a loop of it had already hit airwaves). The video for the eventual single featured the main cast of Friends, and the song topped the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for eight weeks upon its release. It also went to #1 on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream chart after its 1995 release (the show with the short version theme debuted in 1994). Interestingly, the song was originally offered to both R.E.M. and They Might Be Giants, both of whom declined to record it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs-HbHCcK58
