On Day 8, terrorists who were angry with President Hassans willingness to sign a treaty with President Taylor obtained nuclear rods from the Russian mob and threatened to release a nuclear bomb unless she handed over Hassan for execution. She refused and Jack was appointed to Hassans security team. Hassan however, upon learning of the threat, decided his life was not worth that of thousands of innocent others and he escaped to turn himself in. By the time Jack reached him to save him, Hassan had already been executed.
7. You Sneaky President
Because President Logans actions during Day 5 (involvement with terrorists and the assassination of former president David Palmer) were not publicised, Jack was one of the few people who knew the extent of them. While having this knowledge during Day 8, Jack somehow allowed Logan to succeed in becoming involved in the executive decisions of President Taylor. All for political gain, Logan assisted in covering up the Russians involvement in the murder of President Hassan, and tried to have President Taylor order Jacks execution because of his knowledge.
