Has a TV show ever started with as much of a bang as Day 5 did? In the opening scenes we bare witness to the assassination of beloved former President David Palmer and a car bomb that took the life of Michelle Dessler and almost Tony Almeida along with it. Jack is brought out of retirement and makes it his mission to search out those responsible, a path that leads him to Christopher Henderson, his former boss, and the man who brought him to CTU. The same man who has ordered the deaths of his friends, and who later finishes off Tony with a lethal dose of hyoscine-pentothal (or so we all thought queue Day 7). He is a villain the likes of which Jack hasnt faced since Nina Myers and it's after the siege of a hijacked nuclear submarine where this incredible standoff takes place. Henderson makes a deal with Jack for immunity in return for helping him stop the terrorists but later he realises Jack never planned to let him go. Jack executes Henderson, shooting him twice in the chest as a navy officer looks on in utter shock. It was a satisfying end to one of the worst betrayals Jack has ever experienced, another moment of pure ruthlessness which just shows you should never cross Jack Bauer. Plus, how much cooler can you get having a standoff on top of a submarine?
