25 Best Superhero TV Shows Of All Time

7. Arrow

Arrow Season 1
The CW

The show that single-handedly built a freakin' universe, Arrow showed us all that traditional superhero television wasn't just capable of working in the modern day, it could reach heights similar to its big-screen counterparts.

A dark reimagining of Oliver Queen's origin story, it chronicled his journey from shipwrecked billionaire to Starling City's saviour over eight seasons, all while setting up a world that could carry on long after it ended. Its gritty tone quickly set it apart from the superhero status quo that Smallville had previously established on television while the realism at the beginning of its run made it perfect for a post-Dark Knight world.

Speaking of the show's run, it was far from a smooth one as poor creative decisions hampered it midway through, but its first two seasons, a few in between and its last provided fans with some of the most compelling episodes of television during their respective years. And no matter how bad it got (hi Season 4!), it could always rely on exceptional performances from core trinity Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy and David Ramsey to guide it back to a watchable standard.

A trailblazer that breathed new life into the genre, Arrow was the most important superhero TV show of the past decade, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts and minds because of all that it did for superhero television.
