25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

9. Firefly

The X Files
Fox

A futuristic space Western series, Firefly was yet another all-too-brief unique concept from the mind of Joss Whedon. A show that took place in the year 2517, it followed the escapades of Nathan Fillion's Captain 'Mal' Reynolds as he and his eclectic crew made their way through space on their ship Serenity, attempting to make deals with those who would listen and avoid the dangers of the future.

Undoubtedly one of the great injustices in TV history, it's a darn shame that Firefly never made it past the first season. The world that Whedon built here was arguably his most vivid ever, ensuring that each episode was a guaranteed adventure, and its cast was one of the all-time great TV ensembles which made its character-centric offerings some of its most engaging.

While fans undoubtedly counted their lucky stars that the story was given a more satisfactory continuation in the 2005 film Serenity, it's still unfortunate that it was robbed of a much longer run.
