25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time
8. The Twilight Zone
Without question one of the most bizarre shows to ever grace TV screens, The Twilight Zone was, in many ways, way ahead of its time. An anthology series, each episode was a standalone adventure (if you can call them that?) that centred on one or more characters locked in some of the most bewildering circumstances you could imagine, forced to battle disturbing creatures or face never-ending nights.
The truth is that there were no limits to what The Twilight Zone tackled as it often shifted from exploring alien life to technological dangers in its never-ending bid to confound viewers, allowing it to blur the lines between sci-fi, horror and fantasy. But the real beauty lay in the fact that many of the installments of the Rod Serling series were essentially allegories, with an important moral behind them.
And with that, you can see how it inspired so much genre TV that followed - including some of the previous entries on this list.
