25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time
7. Star Trek
Following the adventures of William Shatner's Captain James T. Kirk and his USS Enterprise crew Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Dr. 'Bones' McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Star Trek was intended to showcase their five-year mission to traverse the galaxy and explore new possible worlds and civilizations in the 2260s. Though it only ran for three seasons - which back then was actually quite a significant run - it quickly became a cult phenomenon and paved the way for subsequent successful offerings.
True enough, not all of it was perfect, but it doesn't matter because even a term like that may not be enough to encapsulate just how game-changing the original Star Trek truly was.
For one, it's a fascinating look at how the '60s thought the future might look (hey, it still might turn out like that, right?) but it was also a revolutionary science fiction outing that pushed the boundaries of what television was capable of at the time - one that would single-handedly reshape that genre and go on to become one of its very foundations.
