25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

6. Battlestar Galactica

The X Files
Sci-Fi

In the six years Battlestar Galactica was on the air, it amazed viewers with both its writing and visual effects - and, in all honesty, that right there is the dream combo for any good sci-fi series. However, it was far from a box-ticking exercise, as its intricately-plotted narrative allowed the show to use familiar concepts (literally since it was a remake of a short-lived '78 series) to venture into uncharted territory, pulling off feats that felt like they belonged on the big screen.

Set in a future in which humans inhabit what is known as the Twelve Colonies, it charts how the species' use of a group of technologically-advanced Cylons ultimately causes their downfall - as the self-aware androids turn on the human race and nearly wipe out all of humanity across the planets. The only military ship of the Colonial Fleet to survive this attack is the Battlestar Galactica - which ventures off into space as the last remnants of humanity attempt to survive and, y'know, find a potential 13th colony (that would be Earth).

We all love a good tale of survival and Battlestar Galactica tells it better than most, using its ambitious concept to showcase human resilience at its absolute finest.
