25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

17. The Expanse

The X Files
Amazon Prime TV

Given that immortality and undying fortitude are significant elements of the science fiction genre, it's safe to say that The Expanse it nailing its attempt to literally become science fiction. Yes, the show initially ran on Syfy for three seasons before it was abruptly cancelled by the network, but like its rag-tag group of antiheroes, it bounced back by finding new life on Amazon Prime and now has a fifth season on the way.

Based upon the novels by James S. A. Corey, the show is set in a future in which the solar system has been, kid you not, colonised by humanity. However, it's up to the protagonists - those aforementioned antiheroes - to investigate. And yet, by pushing back too hard, they are thrown into a conspiracy that threatens the peace itself.

Look, we could go into the show's plot all we want but you'd be much better served watching it, because each episode is an overwhelmingly visual experience full of stunning effects and eye-watering sights. That doesn't, however, overshadow the depths of its characters because the vast majority of them are thoroughly well-developed, ensuring that this space drama is every bit as engaging as it is stunning.
