25 Mind-Blowing Facts About The West Wing

15. CJ Cregg's Romance With Danny Concannon Was Based On A Real-Life White House Press Secretary-Reporter Relationship

Danny CJ West Wing

One of the key features of the show is White House Press Secretary CJ Cregg's complicated relationship with Washington Post reporter Danny Concannon. This on-screen romance was actually based on the real-life relationship which President Bill Clinton's Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers had with her husband, the New York Times reporter Todd Purdum.

Myers worked as a consultant on The West Wing, and she helped construct the storyline in which CJ and Danny decide they cannot be together - until the first episode of the final series in which they are shown three years into the future, married and living together in Santa Monica, California, with a child.
