25 Mind-Blowing Facts About The West Wing
23. Allison Janney Regularly Lip-Synced On Set... And That Is What Inspired CJ Cregg's "Jackal" Scene
In between takes during the filming of the first series of The West Wing, Allison Janney - who played White House Press Secretary Claudia Jean "CJ" Cregg - would regularly lip-sync to songs in order to entertain her fellow cast members.
One of her favourites to perform was Ronny Jordan's 1993 song "The Jackal" - and, after Sorkin spotted her doing it, he decided it had to be in the show. That is why CJ celebrates the confirmation of President Bartlet's Supreme Court judicial nominee Justice Roberto Mendoza by singing the song to her fellow West Wing colleagues while they drink and smoke cigars.
