25 WORST Episodes Of Star Trek EVER

8. The Way To Eden - TOS

The Way To Eden
Paramount Home Entertainment

If the picture alone doesn't do it for you, odds are the article itself isn't going to convince you. But let's try.

Space hippies take over the Enterprise and find out that Eden is a lie. Wait, sorry, that's the plot of Star Trek V. Let's try again. Space hippies take over the Enterprise and find out that Eden is a lie.

The plot so bonkers that it was recycled for a feature film, this ode to the flower power movement just falls so flat and is covered in the ludicrousness of the scenario that in today's eyes, it is almost unwatchable. Almost, as there are still things to enjoy. Charles Napier, who would return as the hard boiled Army commander in Little Green Men, is clearly having the time of his life playing Adam, one of the leaders of the group.

The characters suffer from a poor rewrite of DC Fontana's original script. Chekov, who was introduced to the show as the younger, more fun and hip member of the crew, is portrayed as upright and rule-fearing. His old flame is among the hippies but they couldn't be more different if they tried. While the quest for Eden itself is grounds for a deep story, the execution lets it down. Another issue is that yet again, Kirk loses control of his own ship. Is that man even trying?
