It'll be up to audiences to decide whether this final revelation was vindication for Ray or only compounded the heartbreak of his demise. In a closing scene, his ex-wife opens the paternity test letter to see that Ray was Chad's father after all, rather than being the product of rape. Though this would no doubt have put Ray at ease, it seems unlikely that Chad will ever learn the true extent of his father's bravery in his final days, especially with his ex-wife's assertion that he was a bad man. All the feels, all of them, certainly more so than the first season's relatively safe finale, which didn't evoke much feeling at all. What did you think of True Detective Season 2?
