3 Reasons For And Against John Oliver Getting A Daily Show Spin-Off

1. Against: Similarities

351679-daily_show_super For as dissimilar as Oliver€™s style seems without Stewart hosting The Daily Show, there are similarities in their comedic styles that could, potentially, hinder any future spin-off show. Colbert has been extremely successful because the entire premise of his show is different from that of Stewart€™s show. Instead of providing political satire in the form of sarcastically making fun of the news of the day, Colbert plays the part of a Conservative pundit, allowing him to impersonate those at which he pokes fun. Oliver€™s style would be very similar to that of Stewart. He would make fun of the news of the day in the same style of show as Stewart. Despite the dissimilarities stemming from Oliver€™s status as a bemused British outsider, the shows would still be very similar. Ultimately, I believe that it would be difficult for Oliver to maintain an audience for a late night show with a style that is so similar to that of Jon Stewart. Agree? Disagree? Let me know below!
