3 Things Doctor Who Should Do To Retain Fans (And 2 To Bring Old Fans Back)

4. Change Team TARDIS

Doctor Who Come Back

The dynamic in the TARDIS hasn't been ground-breaking for the past 2 series. When Chris Chibnall took over, he was clearly trying to go back to the basic formula that Doctor Who began with; The Doctor travelling with 3 companions/friends. However, the delivery of these characters has not been overly impressive.

Usually, the role of the companion is to assist the Doctor whilst growing as a person. Graham and Ryan seem to have fulfilled the growth element in series 11, building their relationship as they go, but they hadn’t assisted the Doctor all that much, and series 12 didn’t see much more development for the pair. When it comes to Yaz, she seemed like a spare part at times in series 11. She was just there. Series 12 has done her a bit more justice, giving her more to do and building her confidence up, but it’s not been enough. It’s doubtful that this set of companions will be remembered on the same level as Sarah Jane Smith, and there needs to be a change.

Removing characters from this team will give those remaining on the TARDIS the space to breathe and show their talents. On the other hand, removing them all could be a good move as this could give someone new the chance to step in and hopefully deliver a fresh, interesting take on the Doctor’s companion. As it currently stands, Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh (Ryan and Graham respectively) are reported to be leaving the show after Revolution of the Daleks. Whether this gives Yaz more room to breathe, or another pair of companions join the team, we're yet to see.
