11. Dalek

When the first few episodes of Series 1 aired, fans let out sighs of relief that the show had been brilliantly updated for a new century. But, after the Doctor and the TARDIS, there was one more core element of the series it had to get right. Would it do the Daleks justice? Of course it would. Apart from their tough new bronze tank look (which seems set to stay, after the failure of the paradigm Daleks), the imaginatively titled Dalek demonstrated just how destructive one of the pepperpots can be while also underlining how, well... alien the Daleks are from human beings. Come on, everyone, back behind the sofa!
