6. The Eleventh Hour

Modern Doctor Who has given each of its Doctors a great introductory episode (Rose, The Christmas Invasion, Deep Breath), but the best of the lot is The Eleventh Hour. No prizes for guessing which Doctor this one features... After the phenomenally popular David Tennant/Russell T Davies era, this episode (the first to be exec-ed by Moffat) could have floundered under all the pressure but instead it manages to succeed with aplomb - setting up the fresh, storybook feel of Series 5 straightaway with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan effortlessly slipping into their new roles. In the nicest possible way, the Eleventh Doctor's era probably never got better than this first episode.
