For once, when a mysterious entity starts copying the voices of the occupants of a bus on an alien world, the Doctor is unable to control the situation - something that almost results in his own death. The single set and lack of a physical threat could make this simply 'the cheap one' but Midnight is an episode clever enough to use minimal resources to make you think as it looks at people's mob mentality in a crisis... and scares you. People with wide eyes who copy you are naturally creepy.
